The Tuscarora Inn is housed in a pillared stately manor built in the mid nineteenth century by Dr. Albert J and Jenny Evans. Dr. Evans was a respected Lockport physician.
In 1911 the Lockport Wheelmen Club, a prominent bicycle organization in need of a larger clubhouse, purchased the home. Club members voted on January 12 to change their name to The Tuscarora Club of Lockport. Title to Dr. Evans' estate was acquired on February 11th. The club's constitution and by-laws were adopted on June 12th and Fred Moyer became the first club president. After months of renovation and remodeling, the new Tuscarora Club's formal opening took place December 20th 1911.
The Tuscarora Club of Lockport continued to be an esteemed business and social club for many years. Membership was only extended to men until June 1995 when the by-laws were amended to allow women in order to conform to the ever-changing business world. The club had become a Lockport, NY landmark and played host to some of the most prestigious social functions in the city. Members also enjoyed many recreational activities in the clubhouse including cards, dice, billiards and bowling.
In February 2007 the members of the Tuscarora Club were forced to close their doors after 96 years of tradition. The rise of operating costs and decline in membership put the club in financial hardship.
Dominick and Nancy DeFlippo saw potential in the beautiful vacant building later that year and had visions of re-opening it as a restaurant and catering facility. After months of hard work and dedication to the project the Tuscarora Inn presently operates as Lockport's premier banquet facility and lunch hot spot.
